WHO WE ARE
Created in August 2021, the Sara Hernández Foundation was born with the objective of conserving, restoring and protecting the different ecosystems that make up the Tunquén Wetland Nature Sanctuary.
Its name is a tribute to Sara Hernández herself, a woman who was taken in by the Hernández family of the area, who incorporated her as one of their own and in turn made her their heir.
Thus, today the foundation maintains its legacy by making it a guardian of the Sanctuary, echoing its close history forged with this place through the work currently led by three women from the family.

QUÉ HACEMOS
We promote conservation from a perspective that goes beyond the protection of flora and fauna: we believe that both humans and other living beings are united by a symbiotic ethic that governs our behavior.
We are driven by empathetic coexistence, where everyone is an ethically significant being, worthy of respect and autonomy. This echoes its close history, forged with this place through the work currently led by three women from the family.
We try to understand, within our limitations, the complexity of the interactions of the animal, plant, and fungi kingdoms, highlighting their different perspectives and the contexts in which they develop.
We lead work based on conservation science and social science, seeking to ensure that understanding leads to meaningful practical application for everyone.

To conserve the ecosystems of the Sanctuary through an integrated management model, to involve visitors in its conservation through environmental education, and to link the communities of Casablanca and Algarrobo in actions that contribute to the protection of the wetland and the development of the localities.
Ultimately, our work is an invitation to reflect on and explore the links between the animal, plant, and fungi kingdoms, promoting the balance of biodiversity and an approach to these worlds through care, contemplation, and recreational activities.
OUR OBJECTIVES
We are going through a stage in history in which human actions are altering the complex ecosystems that sustain life on the planet.
That is why today, more than ever, it is essential to understand how animals and other kingdoms interact with each other and how these insights help us chart a path towards a future where we coexist sustainably.
To achieve this, we established three governance objectives:
